Location: Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton, UK

Duration (dates): September 2024 – December 2024

Value of Works: Circa £150k

Concept Building Services (Southern) Ltd was appointed to deliver the construction of a Liquid Oxygen Tank Compound at Princess Anne Hospital, part of the UHS Trust. This critical infrastructure project was designed to support the hospital’s essential operations, reinforcing its capability to provide uninterrupted healthcare services.

The project involved the construction of a robust brick and steel enclosure, partially roofed and purpose-built to house two new liquid oxygen storage tanks. The works included installing a structural steel framework, constructing brickwork walls, and fitting roofing, metal access gates, and doors. To ensure seamless integration with the hospital’s existing infrastructure, extensive adaptations were made to the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. These works included mechanical adaptations to the existing medical gas systems and the installation of new lighting to enhance safety and operational functionality.

Throughout the project, Concept Building Services carefully coordinated works to maintain hospital operations and prioritise patient safety. Comprehensive planning ensured strict compliance with infection control measures, access protocols, and health and safety regulations. The construction phase was delivered without disruption to the live healthcare environment, thanks to meticulous logistical management and regular stakeholder engagement. The project scope included the installation of liquid oxygen tanks and associated equipment, including interconnecting pipelines, valves, and instrumentation.

The new compound was integrated into the hospital’s infrastructure in full compliance with health technical memoranda (HTM) and building regulations. As principal contractor, Concept Building Services took responsibility for health and safety management, traffic flow coordination, and waste management on site. Progress was monitored through regular meetings, ensuring alignment with UHS Trust requirements and the timely completion of the project.

This project exemplifies Concept Building Services’ expertise in delivering complex healthcare infrastructure projects within live environments. The successful completion of the Liquid Oxygen Tank Compound demonstrates the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting UHS with high-quality, innovative solutions tailored to the unique demands of healthcare facilities.
