St Bartholomew's Hospital - Linac Removal & Installation
Location: St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London
Duration (dates): September – October 2019
Value of Works: Circa £70k
Concept Building Services were contracted by Skanska to undertake enabling works at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, focusing on the removal of an existing LINAC (Linear Accelerator) machine and the installation of a new one. The project spanned four weeks from September to October 2019, with a total value of £70,000.
The works began with the installation of temporary partitions to segregate the site, ensuring minimal disruption to the surrounding areas. The project included the protection of existing flooring in the control room and the removal of existing floor coverings in the exam room. Lighting fixtures over the equipment were carefully removed and set aside for reuse, and a section of the suspended ceiling was taken down to facilitate the removal and reinstallation of the Varian unit. The chilled water lines were isolated, and the floor trunking was exposed to allow for necessary alterations. Additionally, the existing mains panel was isolated and removed as part of the preparatory work.
Builders’ work included floor chasing for the installation of equipment containment, alterations to partitions to accommodate the new mains panel, and the installation of a free-issue optical imager and IRM mounting post to the existing ceiling. Mechanical services involved local pressure testing, flushing, and certification of the system.
